A rational nomenclature should:
1) Facilitate communication among professionals
2) Coincide, as much as possible, with the extant terminology of native speakers.
3) Stimulate progressive thought in the field of cutlery synthesis by suggesting unlikely or counterintuitive hybridizations.
Allowed and Disallowed Hybridizations
A hybrid which destroys the functional character of any hybridized element is said to be disallowed.
This foon, for example, is readily identifiable as a major fork-spoon hybrid (or a minor spoon-fork hybrid), but its design is such as to destroy the functionality of the fork moeity. It is disallowed.
